Time and again, it boils down to customer feedback, how happy customers are with your product, quality, service and overall business experience when it comes to any business. I am delighted that my little online shop continues to make sales and receive cool customer feedbacks as you can see from here-

I myself am grateful to all my buyers who took time out to provide feeback, and also to all my buyers who are happy with my shop and somehow havent been in a position to find time for themselves due to busy schedules. As long as the experience is worth remembering for them, I am happy.

Great customer feedback always doesnt mean all went well only during the transaction, perhaps in some rare cases, shipping got delayed, customer had some additional queries to the process ..but they were handled well, and in the end outcome was good and customers felt it was money worth spent.

Thanks again to all my buyers..for those who are new to my shop, I have unique collection of handmade artworks, folk art, original paintings are reproductions and some handmade supply artworks also. I ship worldwide from within India. I also have framed artworks as well.

Recent offline sale of original watercolor nature paintings - framed custom

Well, online sale is something and offline or in person sale is unique as well. Recently my friend Ashish asked whether I have any of father's nature paintings left in stock. He is special liking for nature and landscape paintings and post his home coloring project his next task at hand was to start working on beautifying the walls with paintings of his choice.

I indeed had couple of antique looking (handmade paper based) and old styled water color based landscape paintings with two figures in each. In one, there are two children and in other there is a couple. Both are by sea side, with beautiful setup and light colors.

I got them matted for him and also framed as per his choice, and finally the order was completed, I had great joy within me, that my father's paintings are now on their way to my friend's place and will be cherished forever there.

I am attaching the pictures herewith.

Well, offline sales are interesting too, hope more continues from within India. I have a great stock, contact if interested in seeing and /or ordering.

With upcoming festival of lord of wisdom, our dear elephant god, Ganesha whom several people across the world worship and admire for its virtues, let me wish you all happy festive times. My father particularly had such a strong hold and fine brush with Ganesha paintings. Of course he did several other arts as well, such as other folk art paintings, nature paintings, abstract, at the same time I think Ganesha paintings were so nature of him.

I am really pleased to introduce you to our new artist, Raghuvir Kulkarni who has have extremely high range of experience in creative field. He has completed studies in art from very prestiged art institute J.J. school of art, Mumbai, way back in 1975. He has vast range of experience working or art agencies, has also worked in the capacity of creative director, cine director, playrights, cartoonist, writer and poet and last but not the least artist who paints with brilliant concepts, be it on canvas, paper, be it for murals, for large walls...whatever I write in this blog post will still be limited by all means. And I think his works on my art shop will speak for itself, we also accept custom orders with specific requirements.

Just a small highlight on his career as gifted artist-

Remembering my father- with this Energy Symbol Om (Aum) Original Painting

It is just a few months father, you have left this wordly world and while I do list his beautiful paintings with fond remembrance, I do miss him a lot. This energy symbol painted by dad indeed depicts endless cosmic energy, that just flows from one form into another and never really gets destroyed. Several meditation practises suggest the practitioners to focus on something peaceful, a symbol or an image in mind. This om (aum) symbol does provide such a 'object' for meditation session. Happening Sydney Opera House

In this photography work, I have tried to maximize the crystal clear beautiful Sydney Opera House, on one of those bright and sunny days, with blue skies and equally beautiful blue ocean surrounding the world famous landmark structure. I loved the walk along, as I mentioned in my previous post, and also the lively cafes nearby and the delight on people's faces as they see this landscape and immerse themselves into it. Well needless to say, the performance inside are also equally stunning. I watched sitar concert by world famous Anoushka Sharma, in the main concert hall of the Opera House. It was an experience. Even after visiting this lively place for several sevaral times, I am unsatisfied, there is always some new thing to see, some new photograph to be taken, there is some new thing to be enjoyed, and well last but not the least some new shopping to be done :-)

The moment one gets off the Citirail train at Circular Queue station located in the heart of the Sydney CBD, the wind from Opera House can be felt, fresh breeze with lots of wharfs around waiting for the cruises and ferries to depart or arrive, make the walk to Opera House a refreshing start. In about 10 minutes you reach the world famous Opera House, an architectural masterpiece and home for world famous performing arts. You see it at different times of the day, you get different perspectives of this beautiful work.

The photograph I have displayed in this blog, is one of the vintage or classic style colored and yes, it is just one view of the lotus leaves that make Opera House, THE Opera House.

Folk art as what it means to me

To me it is just simple and beautiful form of art, or rather simple and hence beautiful form of art. Be it from anywhere across the world, folk art cherishes simple things, simple joys that life brings to us, such as countryside, nature, love, friendship, freedom, cheerfulness, animals, villages, children, especially human beings are in simplified form from what I have seen. What I mean by this is, human beings may not carry ALL the expressions or all the body parts, but just some strokes that depict the forms. Still they carry unbelievably strong messages.

On world environment day

Today is WED (world environment day) and I am wondering what I have done for saving the world and environment. I myself have stopped using plastic bags, I use cotton bags instead as much as I can. I do walk and see if drive is really necessary. I have myself platted a few trees. But yes that is not enough at all. I have done my bits only, just that I want to remind myself of some of my commitments towards the initiatives for world environment saving and preserving. I would like to display through this blog post, this beautiful artwork my father created, which is named "Go Green". Save forests, save trees, avoid using materials that are harmful to environment such as plastic, support recycling efforts. By the way that reminds me, I do use recycled material made envelopes for my shipments of my art shop orders. With several of fine art photographs from my shop selected as part of etsy treasuries, I decided it's time to be part of this wonderful group and gladly I am accepted there and it's such an exciting group. People with true passion of photography, discussing and helping each other grow the passion further and improve upon as a team. I myself have in my shop by now, a great set of photo works which can be enlarged to a very good extent as custom request. I have kept generally a standard size 8 x 10 for all the works by default. I am also fond of several other photographers of etsy here that have been into photography for indeed long and have improvised their skills very well. I myself have been fond of photography as such since childhood. In those days it was all analog (non digital) and one would be watchful of expenses incurred on the photos as they are turned colored from their negatives. I also remember all my childhood photographs (thousands of them) which were taken by my father who himself was artist. I think I still love black and white at the core of my heart, at the same time colors have such a huge role to play in our lives. It is just that black and white photographs (I do have a few of them so far and many others to be added) look antique and they have vintage value. Plus I am sure, like I am fond of black and white as well in the world of colors, there are several art collectors as well who are indeed focussing only on black and white works. So with that let me take time to remember my father who first taught me photography through his actions and his passion, through the work he has created since my childhood (and I know his first camera costed him Rs 150 that is ~3 USD by now) and he helped me develop an eye for art and photography, a gift to be cherished forever.

While the internet space occupied by my father on this blog and art shop still remains, my father physically has transformed himself back into the universe where he came from, like a shooting star..He is in a whole new world now, he has gone so far that he cant come back to where he used to be..Like lyric'ed in the song "The whole new world", he perhaps says now, to us, that he is reaching unbelievable heights, seeing unbelievable sights, with indescribable feeling, through an endless diamond sky.

Let's start a brand new story now...with tributes from all of us, with my cousin Vivek Kulkarni, for whom my father was art inspiration himself, joining Creations-The Art Shop with vigour and energy that my father will see somewhere around the corner.

Every Day- Stand Up For SOMETHING

Coming to think of it, isn't it really true every day we get to face situations that demand we standing up for , voicing out for something we believe in, something we care for, something we want to save or something we want to make work?

In the Stand up meeting photo art from my shop, I tried emphasize the importance of saving time spent otherwise in endless unresourceful meetings at times, the same time can be saved through concept of daily "Stand up meetings" I have myself practised when it suited most. In here, the team exchanges quick status updates, issues if any and next steps/plans for the day. The very act of standing up makes team members think they need to finish precisely on time or in time and avoid spending time on un-required items or un-important items. Think about time saved together with this, in corporate status meetings? Perhaps same can be used for building huge next gen innovation. Just some thoughts. Now let us sit down and start off where we paused :-)

Price Increase - Justified

As I have announced on my etsy shop http://creations1000.etsy.com/ since last one week or more, I am taking the shop artwork and item prices through a revision, as I complete 2 years of the shop on 10th Feb 2011. It has indeed been an exciting journey for me with several learnings, joys of sales, shipping, feedbacks, improvisations with help of my family, friends and all artists associated directly indirectly. When there are several prices around that I pay for day to day items and I have no control on or get an explanation for price-increases, I feel even more stronger need to justify impending price increases to my customers. I very well am aware how as a buyer feels when the prices we are used to are higher than what we are used to.

Well in the end it is a supply chain isn't? It's a trade off between giving best quality product and service at best price and at the same time, earn enough profit so that your business sustains, grows and you can continue to provide your buyers better services, products with greater innovation and improvising upon quality in a continuous fashion.

With all said, fact is my (our) own supply costs are increasing, be it for example, the material cost for the artworks, usage of better packing material requires better packaging products, increased transportation costs from the time I started and many more. Plus all of us the fellow etsysellers do pay etsy commission as well as paypal commission and I am grateful to all these e-commerce entities involved including google by itself that helps with online purchases appealing despite being a 2D media for selling 3D objects.

Above all, there is value for creativity which is so hard to measure..but it still needs to be measured somehow, in order to be bought or sold. I believe in my own creativity, be it creative writing for products specs, be it photography of the art works and art supplies, be it being an explorer who is constantly searching for the something creative and appealing, be it believing in my own aesthetic sense. I believe in my father's artwork that he has been doing for years as an artist from well known art school in India (JJ school of art) and years and I have been seeing for years and years. I believe in Sri's photography art which is showcased on my shop, I believe in all artists associated with my shop. I believe in all the business suggestions given by my husband and endless thought process gone into making creations-the art shop where it is now.

At the same time in order to attain better growth and also after careful observation of online offline market in terms of prices, I have finally decided to make some increases to the pricing, depending on the item to item. Hope this justifies price increase enough and I assure you that prices would still be reasonable and you will continue to provide us business and help us grow. Thanks.

How To Maximize Benefits of Yoga - 1

As I revise my learnings in Yoga, and also introduce Om and Yoga series on my etsy shop, let me start adding few things on this topic. When one does any Yoga posture, there could be different ways to do each step along with breathing. For e.g.

Option A: One may do more number of yoga postures in certain time interval
Option B: One may do a certain posture for longer duration, thus total number of repeats in a given time interval being lesser than in option A.

So which one is better? Option B. In this quality matters most, doing each yoga exercise with quality, holding for longer time gives better results and most benefits of the same.

All in during the time, one needs to continue normal breathing.

I had been away from my blog for a while however work was not stopped, as far Creations - The Art Shop goes. Rural India - A new fine art photograph

Rural India always fascinated me as a subject for photography. Hence I wouldnt let go of any opportunity to picture colors of it since I visit such places less frequently. This new photography subject is something that makes me think of lives of the women and girl children from these places. The place I had been to was almost cut off from the "developed" lands, the road connectivity being poor. The land is super-rich and the soil full of mother-earth though. There is definite water shortage though. Tribals do walk down all the way to fetch a "penny" of water. The women and girls do join in their team-work which perhaps motivates them to do this pain-staking job. I was amazed by the smiles and calmness on their faces though, their enthusiasm was commendable and last but not the least- their eagerness to get photographed. "Everyone is an artist in some way or the other. Only the degree varies. Some are born artists, some develop it during their lifetime and there are some who have an artistic instinct.

I probably fit in the last category where I purely go by my instincts to create artworks and my passion for photography allows me to do this.

It was my schooling years in Kolkata, India, when I used to watch keenly a family photographer friend of ours take photos of functions and that got me interested in photography from my early age. But I had to wait for a long time after that before I could own a camera and start clicking. And I had to wait a few more years after that, before I fell in love with the SLRs and now the digital ones.

I am the happiest when I am clicking and always strive to get that 'perfect shot' in whatever subject I shoot. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't and that's what I love about this art. To sum it up, photography and I are inseparable. "

Globe Trotting of This Lord Ganesh

Well this little original painting, with beautiful dark blue framing (not seen in the photograph, framing was a custom order) is a globe trotter in its own way. Well, friend of mine- Amol, purchased it almost an year ago (http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=15856038 ))when I was in Sydney and he was in the US. He got it delivered to his Pune/India residence. Now that he has been back in Pune, he has basically gifted this Lord Ganesh/Ganesha painting to his cousin- Sanjeev, as he was on his India vacation, who teaches atPrinceton University. Looks like the blue frame and the blue elephant has indeed crossed the continents and blue oceans to find its final destination which a great office space like Princeton University. This particular lord of wisdom has decided to live in this cheerful ambiance filled with great education. Wonderful journey isn't? Sometimes I wonder whether these muted works also do have their own 'lives'? Perhaps yes :-)

Photography Prints of My Artworks

Realized that many of the photographs I hadtaken at different places, are good artworks in first place. Hence have started listing those on the etsy shop. Also one of my friends who is very passionate about photography has approached me, for listing his artwork. We are planning to have a meeting very soon. Online Etsy Shop Anniversary

It's approaching soon, on 11th Feb. And I have made myself a photography artwork print as a gift for all my existing buyers, who made difference. Have announced a sale of 10% as well and to all my new buyers joining in the anniv period, I will be shipping them as well the same gift. Key Holder

Dear readers, just wanted to also update you on another small thing I learned in the world of creations. I took a hobby class for making keyholders. I had promised my mother I will gift her this new artwork for her and dad's wedding anniversary. I made aqua theme based key holder, it had provision for holding 7 keys. And 3 fishes ..colorful.
It turned out nice and now it's being used at parent's place. My husband is excited too about this little work and I will make one for ourselves too. And I have got one order for making it by my aunt. That's a good start. Etsy buyers will see these key holders listed in due course of time. Till then, hang in. Happy New Year.

Experimentation With Prints

I had been thinking of doing this for long time and finally managed to do it, thanks to dad for his knowledge, help and right references. Now that our etsy shop is picking up and paintings being liked and loved, we got some select paintings printed and thus reproduced. The reproduction was done on canvas and a good scan quality is very essential. The printing press we know of (that my dad has already worked with) helped us greatly and this small project was thus successful. The idea behind this experimentation is to be able to re-create the artwork and be able to make it available to the buyers at lower costs (Original and print will always defer in pricing). We will see to it that our buyers also see prints in future and be able to purchase those at more attractive prices. Well they say - if you yourself use what you sell, then you are truly committed to what you are selling. Well, I got these prints framed and now I will be able to decor my own home with these greatly framed dad's prints. I have also got one of my dad's large size original paintings framed for my own home (thereby deleting it from etsy shop ...). Three cheers.

Me and Etsy

Well I started my etsy shop in Feb 09. It has been 10 months by now and time flies so fast. Looking back in time, I realize that I have indeed come a long way. Learned so much from so many etsians in some way or the other and I have grown on creative as well as business path. Originally started with just the idea of giving a platform for my father's paintings from his exhibition in Sydney, now I myself have fallen in love with handmade artifacts, arts and crafts, as well as supplies for making those things. And I am glad to see Etsy supports all of these. Not that I did not love handmade arts and crafts earlier, however I must say my passion for arts and crafts is regenerated. With help of my father, by now I am looking at providing painting-PRINTS at lower costs than original ones, I am also looking at providing beautiful and exciting supplies for art and craft projects. I have also re-learned few things about "making" creations as well. Couldn't have been happier. Must say, I thank all my buyers, people who have added me as favourites, etsians who have helped me with shop improvements and suggestions. I also thank my friend from the US, Taru for introducing me to etsy in first place. Well I want to grow my online shop for sure, while making the customer happy through simple little ways, and I am ready to research further on providing new exciting product lines, better customer support and well priced items as always. I am learning too

This is the first time I am writing about my own creations..Well regards creating- I do have enjoyed creating things all the time and now I have formally started learning painting, two of my paintings are ready. Both are Warli paintings, one is on hardboard and other is on wood. Both are colored and the hardboard one has got decorative mirros pieces as well. I used acrylic colors and for the wooden painting I used acrylic tube (3 D) colors. I will update this post with the pictures soon. The activity was fun indeed.

Very are happy to announce that our painting http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21600099 was selected for Treasury on etsy (by member: FlashForward). It was a day of dance indeed for us. At first I was confused as to what it means to be listed there. Perhaps I had not researched etsy on that front much. Basically it's member curated gallery of etsy. This particular item is indeed a very refreshing dancing scene of Warli people. My father was excited too to hear this. The next day 4 of our paintings for sold as well. All this is making me feel so fulfilled with joy and sense of responsibility that I am required to do better work on my etsy shop and in general to promote our art in the world of art-lovers. Sale Sale And Sale

Sorry readers I haven't been up to date with my blog. I have been in the midst of shifting base from Australia to India. Finally done. As far as Creations, our art shop goes, it will work even better since me and dad can work even closely. I can visit him and discuss new ideas for the shop in person. And yes, in the meantime I must admit I have mainly been renewling the listed items and /or putting up items on sale and further sale. This is the final sale we have going on at the moment. Also father is working on some new set of paintings which I will blog on with greater details shortly. We realize that we need to put up more of abstract paintings as well. Titles Of Our Artworks

As you visit our online shop (creations1000.etsy.com), you will see some interesting titles given to the paintings. I mean, I can hope you will like those once you look at the painting and then start relate to those yourself. It has become my hobby to give different variety of titles to different paintings. Looking back, I feel the names are derived from emotions the paintings provokes in me, famouns song titles, some teamwork activities and right words corresponding to those. It just feels great to convey one of the "perceived" meanings of the artwork. As any art-lover would agree, perception of art is also what makes it different. And it may vary from person to person. At the same time, while purchasing, a buyer is always looking for something, some expression he or she can relate to. And by giving right names, I feel I am serving this aspect of the art shopping better. Hope you will enjoy the titles!!!

Price Tag: How much?

Well you would also want to know how we have been deciding the prices and what is going to be our pricing strategy in future? Here is how we go ...

- We do market research based on category, materials used, size of the similar paintings. We definitely do not want to overprice it!
- We analyse our supply costs, artist's time gone into it and finally but not the least we rank 'creative value' gone into it. Now it's quite an intangible value, so we do our best to quantify it rationally.
- We also provide bulk purchase discounts.
- Quality of materials used is also another parameter, for example - all papers may look the same. However if the we have used high quality paper then the price tag would reflect that reasonably.
- Shipping and handling costs are also optimised for regular mailing options, parcel size and delicacy. Bulk purchases often help reduce shipping costs.

The goal is to provide our buyers the best value for money they are paying.

How was the exhibition?

In the month of September '08, when father was here in Sydney, I had started wondering what if I put up an exhibition of father's paintings, drawn during his trip. My husband gave many ideas on overall how the paintings should be in order to be exhibitable. I thought of few ideas on where to exhibit, either at my place or at Padhye's residence or at one of the council halls nearby. Our close buddies Rashmi and Rajesh Padhye had happily offered their residence to be used for exhibition purposes. I just kept thinking until it final struck me that father's date of return will be approaching soon. Since invitations had to go out ahead of time, I checked with Rashmi again, and she asserted and said - "Don't worry, we can defnitelty do the exhibition at our residence". Then many activties started at fast track- creating invites, planning for snacks, arranging for the bluetak, categorising the paintings, numbering them and what not.

The day arrived, 26th Oct '08. We all at home and at Padhye's residence finally managed the show. Many guests came in, apprecaited our efforts. We had not kept sale as our objective of the exhibition, still a few sales occured which was welcoming. In retrospect, we could have planned better, created more large size paintings (than smaller size) considering the audience requirements. At the same time, we did best of ourselves. Rajesh did a bit of video shoots with his new camcoder and the memories will now remain with us forever.

What is the Origin of Warli Art?

The Warli or Varli are aboriginal or indigenous people who live in certain parts of India, primarily states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. They have their own beliefs, life and customs and they speak an unwritten Varli language mingling Sanskrit, Marathi and Gujarati words. The word Warli is derived from warla, meaning "piece of land" or "field". They carry a tradition stretching back to 2500 or 3000 BC. Warli art has become well known worldwide over the years for its universal aesthetic appeal.

Warli paintings use very basic graphic vocabulary: circle, triangle, line and square. Circle representing the sun and the moon, triangle derived from mountains and pointed trees. Only square seems to obey a different logic and seems to be a human invention, indicating sacred enclosure or a piece of land. Most of the Wali paintings depict simple village scenes such as farming, wedding, dances, prayers etc. I personally love warli paintings for their simplicity.

My Special Precious Corner

Thanks to blogger, I finally got a small "space" on Internet where I can write about me, in the context of "Creations" - my big/small venture. I mean it's small right now, and I dream of making something big out it, not just for monetary reasons but also in terms of touching people's lives, giving them little joy through our collection, helping them make their gifts to loved ones stand special. I am glad to be from the family of family and friends who are equally (in fact even more) addicted to art as me.

Well, basically I am a computer engineer by education, always enjoyed logic, engineering drawing, boolean algebra and gates. Human mind and its amazing power always fascinates me. Excellence is my pursuit. I am certified NLP Practitioner. My experience as Business Analyst and as Business Process Management consultant helped me learn business aspects in their own rights. This is the first time through "Creations" I am applying those for myself though. It's fun and at the same time it's a challenge. There is nobody like "they" now who doesn't do things right. Nevertheless it's an interesting journey I must say- writing my experiences, working on promotions at etsy, listing the products, describing them from buyer's perspective, taking photographs of the products and last but not the least- to see orders and to strive to provide best value for money to my customers.

When I first thought of setting up an art shop? Well, I will have to go back into the timeline and make a transderivational search :-) My father attended an exhibition on Warli paintings (alias: Varli, folk or aboriginal art, from Indian tribal areas). I was excited to discover this new form of art. I was intrigued by seeing those precise little characters working in their villages, dancing, celebrating. They didnt have "real faces" and at the same time they were so representative of human life. I drew a few myself, well I had given certain well recognized drawing exams during schooling and I did enjoy preparing and learning for those. Since then amongst all forms of art, Warli paintings became my "top favourite" ones. And then I believe they have universal aesthetic appeal too.

So it all started with Warlis and now I am here, still interested in taking father's art (and possibly many artists work) ahead for its apt recognition worldwide. Our scope now is not only limited to Warli though.

Artists Corner

He has been living his entire life drawing paintings and is dedicated to art in general. Chintaman Rudra (my father), after completion of degree in art from JJ School of art, Mumbai, started working as an artist in a well known government office in Mumbai, while simultaneously working as freelance artist for various firms. His rich experience of over forty years encompasses various forms of arts and commercial work such as busienss logos, greeting cards etc. In Oct 2008, he created a great set of paintings for our informal exhibition in Sydney. Here is the picture of "work in progress" from exhibition time..Life has taken an interesting turn post retirement for him..Earlier slightly dull looking (thinking that he is "retired now") Mr Rudra is now excited about innovations he can bring into his paintings. He is also excited about the online shop (creations1000.etsy.com). Well, not just excited he is amused to see a few his paintings being sold on internet by worldwide buyers. As I get more and more insight into human nature, I realiase that all these human minds and after seeking creations, creating creations and thus growing. What is one of the greatest pursuits of human lives..guess it's to continue to create. And the scope of this phrase 'to create' is so vast that it encomasses almost every area of our lives- creating houses, creating great food, creating artistic artifacts, creating work, creating pottery, creating 'thoughtlessness', creating photographs, creating music, creating silence, creating toys and creating friendships..What is the difference between making and creating then? Taking a closer look at these, creations involve passion whereas making is more process oriented. I want our work to depict the force of passion, hence the name Creations. I can always technically "make" food, but the food created with passion is "felt" for sure.
